What’s the difference between drawer storage and hydraulic lift storage?

Drawer storage gives you several smaller compartments built into the base — easy to access daily without disturbing your bedding, perfect for items you reach for often like sheets, blankets, or seasonal clothing. Hydraulic lift opens up the entire footprint of the bed as one large storage cavity by raising the whole platform with a smooth gas-spring mechanism — better for bulkier items or things you only need occasionally, like luggage or off-season comforters. Drawers are about everyday convenience; hydraulic is about maximum hidden capacity.

Do I need a boxspring?

No — every storage bed in our collection is built on a slatted platform base with reinforced solid wood support. The slats provide all the ventilation and support a mattress needs, so a boxspring isn’t required. This also keeps the bed at a sensible height and preserves your storage space underneath.

How much can I actually fit in the storage?

It depends on the model. Drawer beds typically offer enough room across all compartments to hold a full set of bedding plus a few seasonal items. Hydraulic lift beds offer significantly more volume — full-size duffle bags, comforters, suitcases, and oversized items easily fit.

What kind of mattress works best with these beds?

Any standard mattress will work — foam, pocket coil, or hybrid — as long as it matches the bed’s size. Mattress height is your call based on personal preference, though most customers go with 8″–12″ for a balanced look that pairs well with the headboard.

A spring lift mechanism does the heavy lifting for you — apply gentle upward pressure to the foot of the bed and the platform raises smoothly to a fully open position, holding itself there while you access the storage below. To lower it, place both hands on either side of the frame and give it a gentle push and press down. Designed to handle the weight of a standard mattress and bedding with ease.

Lifting the platform reveals one continuous storage cavity that spans the entire footprint of the bed — significantly more volume than drawer-based beds. Comforters, suitcases, off-season clothing, sports equipment, and other bulky items all fit easily. The cavity is fully enclosed, keeping contents clean and dust-free.
